About Joe Miranda

Joe MirandaFor Joe Miranda, his interests in photography began when he was ten years old. His father was a photographer, and Joe helped him by carrying his 4×5 Linhof, lights and equipment, assisting in the set-ups and working in the darkroom, processing his father’s film and making prints. His father’s interests, in addition to family portrait photography, were in architectural photography.  His father’s ability to manipulate photographs in the darkroom piqued Joe Miranda’s interest in the detail work involved in photography, along with the pure design elements of black and white photography.

It continued as he grew and in high school he began experimenting using his own photo equipment and cameras.  It was apparent, even in high school, that photography would be a creative outlet for many years to come. While he completed his primary education, Joe worked on the school newspaper’s staff as the photographer and he spent his weekends as a wedding photographer.

While Joe Miranda’s professional career has revolved around computers and accounting, he has always spent his spare time on creative outlets, such as woodworking and photography.  Like many other professional and amateur photographers have discovered, digital photography opened up new possibilities by eliminating the dark room.  The new digital cameras, lenses and computer software applications opened up incredible new possibilities for Joe and Miranda Images.  Where film photography was limited by the cost and amount of film, digital cameras now allow for multiple shots in quick succession and the ability to store hundreds of images versus the finite amount allowed on a roll of film.  Joe’s experience behind the camera is enhanced on the computer in a way not previously possible with film photography.

At Miranda Images, what inspires Joe the most is architectural photography and nature photography.  He manages to capture the lines and shadows that make architecture interesting and is still able to capture unique moments that happen only briefly in nature, which are very evident in his pictures of wild horses and landscape photography.

He also enjoys the challenges that come with portrait photography, in particular children’s portraits. Book an appointment today with Miranda Images for your entire family or your children.
